Skills Work for Women (SWFW) Conferences bring together 100 young women in Level I and their career counselors to discuss and explore options in non-traditional fields through round table discussions with female role-models, a partnership luncheon with a keynote speaker and an industry or educational tour.
The goal is to create awareness and interest in the many career options available to young women across the province, and create opportunities for female role models and those interested in equity issues to network and work together.
Skills Canada will invite women working in non-traditional careers to speak to the students and their teachers about their career path, why they chose that path, the barriers they faced and the success they have had. The girls will also have an opportunity to try hands-on demonstrations and participate in a campus and competition tour and the career fair (St. John’s SWFW).
The Women in Resource Development Committee and The College of the North Atlantic is assisting SCNL in the planning of these events. We have received a great response from educators, government and the communities involved.
Dates and locations will be announced soon. Check this page periodically for updates or contact our office at 739-4172 or newfoundland@skillscanada.com
