According to a news release, Team Newfoundland and Labrador took home five gold medals, three silver and six bronze in the competition. Michael Rowe, a student at College of the North Atlantic, also won the Best of Region award for his effort in the car painting competition.
"Team Newfoundland and Labrador won 14 medals in 13 competitions, which was the best performance in Atlantic Canada and among the top medal counts in the country," said Darin King, Minister of Human Resources, Labour and Employment.
"The provincial government is extremely proud of our young Skills Canada competitors and the success they continue to achieve. Our competitors are great ambassadors for our province. They showcase the skills and aptitudes that are in great demand around the world, while simultaneously exploring potential careers that may lead to long-term sustainable employment. This is indeed a great accomplishment."
This year's national competition saw more than 500 high school, post-secondary and apprenticeship students from every province and territory compete in more than 40 competitions.
