UPCOMING EVENTS - 2008/2009
7th ANNUAL PROVINCIAL SKILLED CAREER DAY
Featuring the 11TH ANNUAL PROVINCIAL SKILLS COMPETITIONS
Over 200 student regional finalists from all over the province will gather in St. John's to compete in skilled trades and technologies. Winners will go on to represent Newfoundland and Labrador at the 14th Annual Canadian Skills Competitions in Calgary in May 2008.
The provincial competitions will be held in conjunction with the 7th Annual Provincial Skilled Career Day including the following events: 34 Competitions, trade demonstrations, career showcase, tours, Skills Work for Women Conference, and an Awards Ceremony with government and business speakers.

Where: College of the North Atlantic Prince Philip Drive (Main Campus) and other locations
This program will bring together women working in skilled trades and technologies, female high school students and their career counselors, and women’s groups to create opportunities to partner and highlight the many exciting career opportunities for young women in trades and technology. Full day conferences will include round-table discussions, hands-on demonstrations, luncheon with VIP speakers and industry/college tours.

Winners of the provincial competitions will go on to represent the province at the Nationals in Calgary in late May. Over 600 of the best and brightest in Canada will gather to compete for gold, silver and bronze medals in trades and technologies.

This Invitational Event, hosted in partnership with the Eastern School District, will offer technology and employability competitions/workshops in twelve different areas such as: Information Technology, Web Page Design, Prepared Speech, Computer Animation, TV/Video Production and Robotics for students in grades 7-9. Included with the competitions will be hands-on trade demonstrations.

As part of National Technology Week, Skills Canada will be promoting and hosting events to raise awareness of skilled trades to youth. Packages of information on Skilled Trades Day activities are available to schools.
Gold medal winners at the Canadian Skills Competition 2008 may go on to represent Canada at the World Skills Competition
